More than sixty percent of Washington undergraduate students attend community and technical colleges. Many low-income students turn to community colleges to provide the education that leads to greater economic opportunity and improved quality of life. Recognizing that Washington has a strong community college system that is worth investing in, College Spark has committed more than $4 million to enable 6 Washington Colleges to participate in Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count.
Achieving the Dream is a national initiative focused on helping more community colleges students succeed, particularly low-income students and students of color. The initiative acts on multiple fronts, including efforts at community colleges; research into effective practices at community colleges; public policy work; and outreach to communities, businesses and the public.
More information about Washington state policy opportunities related to improving success for low income students and students of color is provided in the recently completed Achieving the Dream Policy Audit Brief or full report.
